Computing started in Bapco in the 1940s and the first mainframe computer, the IBM 1401 model, was installed in 1962. Since that time there has been a number of model upgrades, IBM 360, 370, through to the IBM 390 machines which were replaced by IBM P6 and Intel Servers.

Bapco started with an IBM Section which later changed to Data Processing Department in the 60’s. In the 80’s it was renamed Computer Services Department (CSD). After the merger of Bapco and Banoco, the current unified Information Technology Department (ITD) was created in 2004.
Electronic Messaging and Desktop Applications were introduced in the early 1990s.

For over 46 years Bapco used IBM mainframes to process its computer systems, but this era came to a close in August 2009, when Oracle eBusiness Suite for Finance & HR was implemented, and the final applications running on the Mainframe were replaced by the new Oracle Refining and Marketing Application which runs on the Oracle e-Business Suite Release 12. It uses the Process Manufacturing and Order Management modules to handle sales orders, product shipping, and the control of crude and refinery products.
In 2013 ITD implemented Server Virtualization, in preparation for the Bapco Private Cloud.

In addition to the above, over all these years, ITD continually introduced the latest technology and services to the business users.
