 Exploration

Operations-Drillingroduction.jpg
While the fundamental process remains the same, new technologies have vastly improved performance and safety since modern oil exploration started in 1912 with the discovery of Cushing Field in Oklahoma, USA.
O&G Exploration and Production (E&P) today requires a variety of economic, social, political and environmental considerations. As energy demand continues to grow, companies must find and produce increasing quantities of O&G. Doing so requires more than merely ramping up production from traditional sources. New challenges include the adoption of new E&P technologies, evolving environmental laws and regulations that vary among (and within) nations, and providing adequate profitability.

As part of Bahrain’s strategy to explore for additional gas resources to meet increasing domestic gas demand, the National Oil & Gas Authority (NOGA) has opened the door for deep onshore natural gas exploration with Occidental Petroleum after a successful bid round and ratification by the parliament and HM King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa on 6 October 2011.
In addition to the work done by Occidental, technical studies and analyses were carried out by French, UK, US and Australian-specialised consultancies to unlock the complex nature of deep unconventional gas reservoirs in Bahrain. The technical work is being continuously followed-up and monitored by NOGA/Bapco to ensure proper and timely execution. The next phase of the project is to start planning for the drilling of three deep exploratory wells.
