Bapco is a unique company, which has never stood still. The first to discover oil in the Arabian Peninsula in 1932, it started exporting in 1934 and refining in 1936. Since then, the company has helped shape the modern Kingdom of Bahrain, not simply through the generation of wealth, but through the development of Bahrain’s manpower. More than 80 years after the company’s establishment, new ambitions in exploration, and new initiatives in oil and gas field development and new global markets continue to open up with rapid advancement taking place in the company. Wholly owned by the Government of Bahrain, Bapco is engaged in the oil ind​​​ustry including refining, distribution of petroleum products and natural gas, sales and exports of crude oil and refined products. The company owns a 264,000 barrel-a-day refinery, storage facilities for more than 14 million barrels, a marketing terminal and a marine terminal for its petroleum products. 95% of the company’s refined products are exports. Bapco is primarily engaged with exploration, refining, storage, production, marketing, training and development, and environmental initiatives in the kingdom. Bapco is on the verge of a major refining expansion project which aims to produce high value products with the long term future in mind, as well as care for the environment and spur better efficiency. Our prime customers for crude oil and refined products based in the Middle East, India, the Far East, South East Asia and Africa.​

On behalf of The Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) and its employees, I take great pleasure in welcoming you to Bapco’s official website. The vision behind this endeavor was to build an enriching and everlasting bridge between our organization, the community and interested readers.
Since the initial formation of Bapco in 1929, Bapco has made a rich history in the development of the oil industry in the region as well as spearheading the transformation of Bahrain from a pearl and agrarian economy to a modern industrialized society. Bapco has simultaneously played a key role in training & development of a new generation of leaders and professionals in addition to value addition to the Kingdom’s economic development. It is our wish to reflect these standards in the interaction, function and the content that our website offers to our partners.
Our philosophy behind re-launching of the website has been to open the floodgates for clear communication, which goes hand-in-hand with our culture of striving for excellence. B​apco established a Quality Management System (QMS) to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product that meets both customer and applicable regulatory requirements. In addition the QMS has enhanced customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for its continual improvement. The current scope of registration with the British Standard Institution (BSi) covers the following:

  • The receipt, storage and processing of Crude Oil Feed Stock.

  • The export of finished products to local and international customers through Marketing Division.

  • The receipt and storage of bulk products on behalf of Chevron.

  • Shipment of Naphtha and Refrigerated LPG on behalf of Banagas.

  • Transfer of Product to Local Market.

The Quality Management System was initially certified in November 1994. In January 2009, the Company successfully upgraded its Quality certification from ISO 9001:2000 to ISO 9001:2008.
In May 2012 Bapco was recertified in accordance with ISO 9001:2008 and in November 2012 the QMS Certification was upgraded to include lube base oil. ​​​​​
